New Proposal Aims to Compel ByteDance to Sell TikTok


A bipartisan group ​of legislators has proposed a new bill‌ that would compel ByteDance to sell TikTok in order to keep the ⁢app ‌accessible ⁣in the‌ United States. The “Protecting Americans ⁣from Foreign⁣ Adversary Controlled Applications Act” aims to ⁤prevent US app stores and ⁤web hosting services from distributing ‍TikTok unless it separates from its parent‍ company, ⁣ByteDance.

This bill is the most recent effort ‍by lawmakers and government officials to either ban TikTok ‌or force its⁤ sale. Former President Donald Trump ​tried to force a sale ‍of TikTok in 2020, but ⁢was ultimately‍ unsuccessful. The Biden Administration has also pushed for the company⁣ to divest.
