Gaemi, a powerful typhoon, was spotted in the Philippine Sea during the early hours of Wednesday in Taiwan. The Joint Typhoon Warning Center provided this information in its most recent update.
With sustained wind speeds reaching 109 miles per hour, Gaemi would be classified as a Category 2 hurricane if it were in the Atlantic Ocean.
All timestamps on the map are in Taiwan time.
Although typhoon season is ongoing throughout the year, the majority of typhoons tend to form between early July and mid-December.
Countries like the Philippines, Japan, and Taiwan are often affected by typhoons, with potential impacts on the Korean Peninsula, China, and Vietnam, resulting in destructive winds and storm surges.
U.S. territories have also experienced the wrath of typhoons, leading to significant financial losses. Guam, for instance, suffered severe damage from Super Typhoon Mawar in May of the previous year.
