A well-known journalist,⁤ writer, and mother‌ of journalist ⁤Vasily Polonsky, ‍Nadia Kevorkova, has ‌been placed ⁣in pre-trial detention for two‌ months on charges of justifying terrorism. This decision⁤ will keep her behind ⁢bars until July ‌6.

Several prominent individuals, including⁣ journalists Eva Merkacheva, Alexander Prokhanov, and Maxim Shevchenko,‌ as ‍well as lawyer Ekaterina Gordon ⁤and Marat Kabaev,‌ the father of gymnast Alina Kabaeva, have vouched for her character.

Kevorkova ⁢faces charges related ⁤to two separate⁢ incidents. The first⁣ involves the publication of a text by the late journalist Orkhan Dzhemal in her Telegram channel in 2018, discussing ‌the Nalchik attack in⁣ 2010. The second incident‍ pertains to her alleged justification of the “Taliban”, a group considered ⁤a terrorist organization in Russia.

Her ⁣lawyer, Kaloy Akhilgov, emphasized that the Russian‍ authorities themselves ⁤have not‌ classified the⁤ “Taliban” as a‌ terrorist organization. He pointed out that high-ranking officials, including the Special Representative of the President in Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, have refrained from labeling the group as such.

Despite the‌ accusations, Kevorkova maintains her ⁣innocence. During ⁢the recent court hearing, her defense team requested to ‌present a list of quotes from official sources regarding the “Taliban”. However, the judge did not allow the quotes to be read without proper documentation.
