Meg Hillier, who chairs the committee, stated ministers “cannot depend on the personal sector to get quick broadband to the hardest-to-reach, excluded and rural areas – and regardless of its repeated guarantees to do precisely that, we’re apparently little nearer to closing ‘the nice digital divide’ creating throughout the UK nor addressing the social and financial inequality it brings with it”.
