Military Court Grants Extension of Detention for Zhenya Berkovich and Svetlana Petriychuk, Keeping Them Behind Bars for Another Year

The defendants‍ in ⁢the⁢ terrorism justification case, film director Evgenia Berkovich and playwright ‌Svetlana‍ Petriychuk, had their arrest ⁢extended by the‌ Second⁢ Western District Military Court until October ⁢22, according to lawyer Sergey Badamshin. Judge Yuri⁣ Massin made the ⁢decision to prolong their detention.

The prosecution‌ argued that releasing the accused could lead to them fleeing or obstructing justice, justifying their request for the extension of the arrest.

The defense countered by pointing out that ‌there was no evidence provided by the prosecutor to suggest that Berkovich ‍and Petriychuk, individuals with clean records and positive reputations, would engage in any‌ harmful behavior. This is especially true considering that the investigation in the case ‍has already been completed.
