Gnats, the flying insects in Grounded, are a valuable source of food and crafting materials for survival in the backyard wilderness. While they may not pose a direct threat, gathering resources is crucial for your shrunken character’s survival. Fortunately, there are ways to lure these elusive creatures for an easier hunt.
Unlike Antlions, Gnats in Grounded are airborne and move erratically, making them challenging to target with ranged weapons. Their unpredictable movements can also be a nuisance, potentially causing your character to stumble or get into unwanted confrontations.
You can spot Gnats buzzing around the Central Grasslands, Flooded Zone, and Oak Hill biomes, especially near light sources like torches. There are two variations of Gnats with slightly different behaviors, but neither pose an immediate threat to your character.
Infected Gnats in Haze biomes are more aggressive and may try to collide with your character. However, they won’t cause direct harm like hostile Larva creatures. On the other hand, Meaty Gnats near the Trash Heap emit a harmful aura, similar to rotten food, causing gradual damage over time.
Since shooting Gnats in the air can be challenging, a strategic approach is to use Spoiled Meat Slurry as bait. By placing this bait on the ground, you can easily target the bugs as they feed. This method can also be used to tame Gnats for exploration purposes in different biomes.
