Armed police were hunting a gunman after shots were fired at a Liverpool cinema and another business.
Merseyside police said that at about 8.50pm on Wednesday they received reports shots had been fired in Showcase Cinemas on East Lancashire Road in the Croxteth area.
They said a gun was fired at a business on Lower House Lane about 20 minutes earlier. Reports said the business was Sangha’s newsagents.
Armed officers and local police were in the area and people were being advised to stay indoors.
The force said no one had been injured and confirmed it was not terrorist-related but was being treated as a major incident.
The cinema was locked down for about 45 minutes as the drama unfolded, reports said.
A witness inside the cinema, Craig Moorhead, told the Liverpool Echo: “As we came out of the cinema screen the armed police response team was running in. I was talking to the girl on the desk, apparently a fella had pointed a shotgun at her. She was in shock.”
Showcase cinemas said: “The safety and welfare of our staff and customers is always number one priority and we can confirm no one was injured. We would like to thank our team members and the local police for their swift responses to this active investigation.”
