The second week since the release of Madame Web is drawing to a close, and the situation for Sony Pictures remains bleak. Official data shows that the movie has only raked in a total of $77.4 million at the box office so far, with $35.4 million coming from domestic sales in the US and $42 million from international markets.
Unfortunately, the box office numbers took a nosedive of 72% in the second week, marking one of the steepest drops in the comic book genre, surpassing only Captain Marvel 2. This drastic decline could result in theaters pulling the movie from screens before the standard 4-week run.
It’s anticipated that Madame Web will end up with even lower box office earnings than the disappointing Morbius, which only managed to bring in $167.5 million two years ago. Sony Pictures is looking at potential losses in the range of $50-70 million, despite recent tax incentives for the film.
