Lululemon has announced its decision to close down its distribution center in Washington and terminate 128 employees following the opening of a new warehouse near Los Angeles. The company officially confirmed this news on Friday.
After filing a WARN notice with the state’s Employment Security Department, Lululemon revealed its intention to shut down the Sumner distribution center, which is situated approximately 35 miles south of Seattle. The layoffs are scheduled to commence on June 21, as stated in the WARN notice. A Lululemon spokesperson mentioned that the facility is set to cease operations by the end of the year.
In a statement, the spokesperson explained, “As part of our growth strategy to meet customer demands, we continuously assess our distribution network to align with the future direction of our business. After evaluating our current infrastructure and fulfillment strategy, which involves a significant investment to enhance capacity and support our expansion, we have opted to close one of our facilities.”
