Limiting the Number of DMs Unverified Users Can Send: Twitter’s New Policy


Twitter has⁤ once again made its ‌platform less ⁣user-friendly​ for⁤ those ‌who choose not to pay for‌ a Blue subscription. The‍ company⁣ has announced that it⁣ will soon implement a⁣ new rule that ⁢imposes a ‍limit⁣ on ⁣the number ⁣of direct messages (DMs)‍ unverified⁢ accounts can send​ per⁤ day. In a‌ tweet, Twitter stated that ⁣this⁢ change is part ‍of its efforts to‍ reduce ‌spam‍ in DMs,‌ which has recently ​increased significantly. 

On‌ July‌ 14th, ⁢the ​website introduced a ⁢new message setting‌ that sends ⁣DMs from ⁢accounts‌ people follow to‌ their primary inbox, ‌and DMs​ from verified users ​they ⁢don’t‌ follow to ‍their message request inbox. Twitter reported⁢ a 70⁤ percent⁣ decrease⁢ in ⁣spam messages ​just⁤ one week‍ after the introduction of ‍this new setting. Prior​ to​ that, the‌ website ‌restricted the ability to send DMs to non-followers to Blue ‌subscribers ⁤only. 

Although Twitter claims that ⁤the ⁤upcoming change ‌aims​ to ‍reduce ⁣DM spam, ‌it ‌is yet ‌another ​move‌ that subtly ‍encourages unverified users to pay for ⁤a ⁣Blue‍ membership. In ‌fact, ‍the…
