Kosovo PM Accuses Belgrade of Inciting Violence, Alleges Vucic’s Desire for War

Kosovo’s Prime⁣ Minister Albin Kurti accuses Serbian ‍President Aleksandar Vucic of planning and ordering an‌ attack in northern Kosovo to destabilize the country⁣ and provoke ‌a ‍war.

About ⁢30 heavily armed Serbs attacked the ‌village of Banjska last Sunday, engaging in a gun battle with Kosovo police and taking refuge in a ‍Serbian Orthodox monastery. One Kosovo policeman and three Serb ‌attackers‌ were killed.

Later on, the police regained control of the monastery and discovered a significant ⁣amount of weapons and ammunition. Six‌ injured‌ members ⁣of the armed group were ⁣taken to ⁢hospitals in southern Serbia, as ⁢confirmed⁢ by Interior Minister Xhelal ⁢Svecla, while the remaining attackers fled.

Kurti informed ⁤Al Jazeera that the Serb⁤ “paramilitary ‍formations” ⁣in Banjska possessed equipment⁤ that is ⁤not available‍ on the open market ⁤and is manufactured in Serbia.

Although prosecutors and Kosovo police are still gathering information, Kurti alleged, “We have confiscated ammunition and weapons worth five million euros [$5.3m], all of which were manufactured in Serbian factories.”

“Hand grenades,⁢ machine⁢ guns, and ‍everything we confiscated were produced in Serbia ⁣and cannot⁢ be found⁢ on the market. It ⁢is evident that the Serbian army provided these to the paramilitary formations,” Kurti stated.
