The renowned Russian cybersecurity firm, ”Kaspersky Lab,” is set to scale back its operations in the United States starting July 20. This decision comes in response to sanctions that bar the company from entering into new contracts with American clients, as reported by TASS.
After a thorough evaluation of the impact of U.S. legislative requirements, the company has expressed its disappointment at having to limit its activities in the U.S. The decision stems from a lack of promising business opportunities in the country.
In late June, the U.S. Treasury Department imposed sanctions on the top executives of “Kaspersky Lab,” while the U.S. Department of Commerce announced a ban on the use and sale of the company’s software in America effective September 29, 2024.
Reports from The Wall Street Journal suggest that the developers of “Kaspersky Antivirus” included a feature in the software to scan for confidential U.S. government files. Allegedly, this was carried out under the instruction of Russian authorities, with the antivirus program scanning users’ devices for documents containing specific keywords like “top secret.”
