NASA is on the lookout for individuals to join its upcoming⁣ simulated one-year Mars surface mission, ‌known as CHAPEA (Crew Health ‍and Performance Exploration Analog). This mission is part ⁣of NASA’s efforts to prepare for human exploration of Mars and is set to begin in the spring of 2025.

The agency is specifically seeking healthy, motivated U.S. citizens or⁣ permanent residents aged 30-55 who⁤ are non-smokers ⁣and​ proficient in English. Effective communication skills are‌ essential for interacting with crewmates and mission control. NASA is looking for individuals who are passionate about unique and rewarding experiences and who are eager to ⁤contribute to ⁢the agency’s mission to prepare⁤ for the ‌first human journey to Mars.

The application deadline is Tuesday, April 2.

In addition to the basic requirements, candidates will need ⁢to meet standard ‌NASA criteria for astronaut applicants. This includes holding a master’s degree in a​ STEM field and having​ at‌ least two years of professional⁢ STEM experience, ⁢or a minimum of one thousand hours of piloting an aircraft. Individuals who have completed two years of work toward a doctoral⁢ program⁤ in science, technology, engineering, and ​mathematics, a medical degree, or a test pilot program will also be⁤ considered. Those with four years of professional experience, military ⁤officer training, or a bachelor of science degree in a STEM field may⁣ also be eligible.
