Joey Chestnut, a contestant in Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog-Eating Contest, was seen alongside the Nathan’s mascot Frankster during the official weigh-in ceremony in New York City on July 2, 2021.
Unfortunately, this year’s Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July hot dog eating contest will be missing a familiar face.
Major League Eating made a surprising announcement that they are parting ways with the 16-time champion, Joey “Jaws” Chestnut, just before the upcoming competition hosted by Nathan’s Famous.
Reports suggest that Chestnut was offered a lucrative $1.2 million, four-year contract by MLE to continue participating in the hot dog competition.
The decision to sever ties with Chestnut was made after he decided to endorse a competitor that specializes in plant-based hot dogs, as confirmed by the organization. The brand in question is rumored to be Impossible Foods, although no official statement has been released by the company.
