JetBlue and American Airlines to discontinue ticket sales partnership



American, JetBlue to end sales of each others’ tickets after July 21

American and JetBlue will cease selling seats on each other’s flights after July 21, following a federal judge’s ruling two months ago that their partnership in the Northeast violated antitrust laws.

The judge’s order required the airlines to terminate their partnership, which had been in place for over two years, enabling them to share passengers, revenue, and coordinate schedules in the northeastern U.S. The airlines argued that they needed to collaborate in order to effectively compete with Delta and United at congested airports serving New York City and Boston.

The Justice Department, along with six states and the District of Columbia, filed a lawsuit to block the partnership, and on May 20, they won their case.
