Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that the border zone between the Gaza Strip and Egypt should be under Israel’s control. He also predicted that the war in the Palestinian enclave and other regional fronts would last for many months.
On Saturday, as Israel entered the 13th week of its war in Gaza, Netanyahu held a news conference where he reiterated his commitment to eliminate Hamas and bring back all Israelis held captive in Gaza.
Netanyahu said, “The Philadelphi Corridor – or to put it more correctly, the southern stoppage point [of Gaza] – must be in our hands. It must be shut. It is clear that any other arrangement would not ensure the demilitarisation that we seek.”
Israel has expressed its intention to destroy Hamas in Gaza and demilitarise the territory to prevent any recurrence of the armed group’s cross-border killing and kidnapping spree on October 7.
