It’s possible that Nintendo could round out The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom with a third game, creating a trilogy. Both games have added to the lore of Hyrule Kingdom and offered new game mechanics, but creating a third game in the same world and following the same story could be a monumental task. A Tears of the Kingdom sequel seems unlikely.
Warning: The following article contains spoilers for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Although some fans speculate that either Skyward Sword or Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity are prequels to Breath of the Wild, which would put BOTW in the middle of a trilogy with TOTK, Nintendo has not confirmed either of these to be the case. If Nintendo were to create another game after TOTK, it would be a challenge to keep it in the same location while giving new areas to explore, as BOTW covered the ground, and TOTK is now covering the ground, sky, and the underground. Additionally, the narrative for TOTK places the storyline in a position that would be difficult to form a foundation for another game on.
Without giving too much away, the ending in Tears of the Kingdom is a very definitive end for this particular story. Zelda recreates itself numerous times over on multiple timelines, so this will likely not be the last players see of Link, yet for the BOTW series, the possibility of another game is slim.
