Iran carries out execution of four individuals convicted in Israeli bombing conspiracy

Iran has carried out the execution of four individuals allegedly connected‌ to an Israeli intelligence operation, as reported by Iranian state media. The ⁤Supreme Court’s rejection of appeals ‌led to the implementation of the death sentences on Monday. The accused were ⁣said to be involved in a plot orchestrated by Israel’s⁣ Mossad agency ⁣to⁤ carry out a bomb⁢ attack.

These individuals were⁣ found guilty of unlawfully ⁢entering Iran from the⁤ northern Kurdish region ⁤of Iraq⁤ with the intention of targeting‍ a factory in Isfahan, a city in central Iran⁣ that manufactures equipment for the Ministry of Defence and ⁢Armed ‌Forces ‌Logistics. Iranian intelligence managed to thwart⁣ the planned operation, which was scheduled for the summer of 2022.

According to Mizan ⁣Online, the website of the Iranian judiciary,⁢ “The death sentence of four members‍ of a group ⁢affiliated ⁤with the Zionist spy organisation … was ‍carried out this morning.”

Iran and Israel have a longstanding history⁢ of animosity, with⁢ ongoing tensions related to Iran’s nuclear program.‌ Israel has ⁤accused Iran⁤ of supporting militant groups like Hamas ⁤and Hezbollah, while Iran has alleged that ⁣Israel has been involved in the targeted killings of Iranian officials and‌ scientists, although these claims have not⁢ been⁢ confirmed by Tel Aviv.

Amnesty International reports‌ that Iran‌ ranks second ⁣only⁢ to ⁣China in the number of executions ⁤carried out annually, typically ‌by hanging.
