Spotify has introduced a new subscription option that is not related to music. The Audiobooks Access Tier, currently available only in the US, provides 15 hours of audiobook listening each month for $10. Subscribers will have access to Spotify’s extensive library of over 200,000 titles. Additionally, users can still enjoy ad-supported music through Spotify’s free tier.
Initially, the price of $10 for an audiobook-only tier may seem unusual, especially when Spotify Premium, priced at $11 per month, also offers 15 hours of audiobook listening along with other benefits. However, considering that audiobooks typically require between seven and 11 hours to listen to, Spotify’s offering is quite competitive. In comparison, Audible charges $15 for one audiobook credit per month, making Spotify’s $10 tier a more cost-effective option, potentially allowing subscribers to listen to approximately two books per month.
By offering this new tier, Spotify is providing an attractive alternative to Audible, particularly for those who enjoy lengthy novels. It’s a move that could significantly impact the audiobook market.
