The Palestine Red Crescent Society announced on Monday that it has resumed emergency and rescue services in Gaza City, located in the northern part of the strip. This comes after more than two months of suspension due to the Israeli ground offensive and the subsequent closure of its hospital.
The north of Gaza had been cut off due to intense airstrikes and the Israeli ground offensive. However, the Israeli military is now withdrawing forces from the areas surrounding some hospitals in northern Gaza, allowing for the resumption of services. Nebal Farsakh, a Red Crescent spokeswoman, confirmed this development.
A team of nearly a dozen rescue crew members arrived at Al-Quds Hospital in Gaza City, which is operated by the Red Crescent and was previously a central hub for their operations. However, they found the hospital in a state of massive destruction and deemed it unfit for work.
“The hospital is completely burned from the outside, and inside all the equipment was completely destroyed,” said Ms. Farsakh.
During a news conference on Monday, Israeli defense minister Yoav Gallant announced that the intensive phase of ground maneuvers in northern Gaza had concluded, and the forces are now dealing with “pockets of resistance.”
