Huawei’s latest innovation, the Mate XT tri-fold smartphone, has garnered an impressive 2.7 million pre-orders, surpassing expectations and overshadowing the upcoming iPhone 16 launch in Beijing.
The unique design of the tri-fold smartphone captured the attention of consumers, leading to a surge in pre-orders within hours of its announcement on Saturday.
Prior to this reveal, Huawei had hinted at a new product launch scheduled for Tuesday afternoon without specifying details. The anticipation grew as Richard Yu, head of Huawei’s consumer and automotive technology group, teased that the product would be groundbreaking and revolutionary.
Yu emphasized that Huawei had transformed science fiction into reality with this new offering.
In a surprising turn of events reported by Canalys in July, Apple lost its position among China’s top five smartphone vendors for the first time. Local brands dominated all spots due to their focus on high-end products and strong collaboration with local supply chains.
Vivo claimed the top spot with 13.1 million units shipped, followed by Oppo and HONOR. Huawei secured fourth place with Xiaomi rounding out the top five positions.
