After giving birth to her son, Ilan, in the summer of 2013, photographer Rachel Papo monitored herself for signs of postpartum depression. She watched for anxiety, insomnia, or loneliness, all of which had plagued her after the birth of her daughter, Zohar, three years prior. Papo had moved to Berlin with her husband and Zohar while pregnant, and after Ilan’s birth, she took photos of her surroundings, including her newborn sleeping in striped pajamas. However, she still felt uneasy and fragile, as her hard-earned sense of stability was threatened.
