Google Offers Lucrative Deals to Publishers for AI-Generated Content

Google has been making quiet deals with publishers to utilize innovative AI tools for publishing⁤ stories, as reported by Adweek. These deals, reportedly valued at tens of thousands of dollars annually,⁤ are‌ part of the Google News Initiative (GNI), a program that supports media literacy projects, fact-checking tools, and other newsroom resources. However, the use of generative‌ AI publishing tools‍ would mark a new and⁤ potentially⁣ controversial direction for the company.

Adweek states that the program is currently focused on a select group of smaller publishers. “The‍ beta tools enable under-resourced publishers to efficiently create ‌aggregated content by summarizing and publishing ⁤recently published reports from ⁢other organizations, such as government agencies and neighboring news outlets,” Adweek⁢ explains.

The⁤ exact compensation for publishers under this arrangement is not‌ yet clear, but Adweek suggests that‌ it’s a significant amount.
