Daedalic Entertainment, after apologizing for the disappointing state of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, has decided to close its development arm and shift its focus to publishing games. This decision was made because Gollum did not meet the studio’s expectations.

According to a report by German news magazine GamesWirtschaft, Daedalic Entertainment stated that 25 out of its 90+ team members have been affected by this decision. They described it as a “difficult decision” but also as a “new beginning” for Daedalic. In an email to Kotaku, a representative from Daedalic Entertainment mentioned that there are still eight “promising releases” planned for this financial year, although it was not specified whether these games are developed by the studio or by someone else entirely.
