Today, it was revealed that a widespread disruption affected the operations of Telegram, Viber, and numerous other services and websites worldwide, rendering them temporarily unavailable (some still are), including in Russia.
According to Globes, the malfunction is attributed to the damage of four underwater internet cables in the Red Sea, causing significant interruptions in internet connectivity between Europe and Asia. Repairing the cables may take up to 8 weeks, during which time various services may experience issues.
Despite this, the Telegram team managed to resolve the issues and switch to alternate servers within just an hour, restoring the service.
