Germany has pledged to provide Ukraine with a Patriot air defense system and missiles from the United States during a crucial period when Kyiv is under attack from Russian forces, as stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
With Russia launching multiple air strikes on power facilities in recent weeks, Ukraine has urgently requested advanced air defense systems to protect its energy infrastructure.
Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to Chancellor Olaf Scholz for the decision to send additional Patriot systems and missiles to Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of this support from Germany.
He urged leaders of other partner countries to follow Germany’s lead in providing assistance to Ukraine during this challenging time.
Germany’s defense ministry confirmed the immediate delivery of the Patriot system, which will supplement the existing air defense systems already sent to Ukraine.
Recent reports indicate that Germany has previously supplied two Patriot systems to Ukraine, making this latest delivery the third from Germany.
Zelenskyy has emphasized the need for a total of 25 US-made Patriot air defense systems to safeguard Ukraine against Russian aggression.
Since the start of the conflict in Ukraine, Germany has shifted its traditionally pacifist stance and emerged as a significant military aid provider, ranking second only to the US.
In addition to Patriots, Germany has supplied a diverse range of military equipment, including artillery and armored vehicles, to support Ukraine’s defense efforts.
Pressure on eastern front
Ukraine’s commander-in-chief, Oleksandr Syrskii, reported a significant deterioration in the situation on the eastern front in recent days, highlighting the escalating tensions in the region.
As Russia continues its military operations, the pressure on Ukraine’s eastern front intensifies, underscoring the urgent need for international support and solidarity.
