The Witcher 3 is still considered one of the best games in the industry. CD Projekt Red has also exceeded expectations by releasing fantastic DLCs, such as Hearts of Stone or simply “Stone Hearts”.
The following will contain spoilers for the expansion’s plot!
Hearts of Stone primarily revolves around Olgierd von Everec, a Redanian nobleman, who was initially thought to be the main antagonist of the DLC. However, it later turns out that the main villain of the DLC is Gaunter O’Dimm, better known as the Master Mirror.
He uses Geralt to fulfill a contract with Olgierd. Thanks to his manipulative nature, cunning, and mysterious behavior, Gaunter O’Dimm is considered a well-written villain, and many consider him one of the best antagonists in games.
One of the fans of The Witcher 3 recently wrote on Reddit that he highly appreciated the villain when he first played the DLC. Many other players agreed with his assessment.
If in the main game Gaunter’s role starts as a secondary character, in the DLC he becomes increasingly intriguing and takes the spotlight. In order to repay a debt, Geralt must fulfill Olgierd von Everec’s wish, but in doing so, he unravels the tragic path of Olgierd’s family and how he traded his heart for power, money, and immortality.
However, there was a catch in the deal. The DLC reveals Gaunter’s essence as a supernatural being with powers that surpass all known entities. Players often consider him akin to a devil or some malevolent creature, although canonically this is not confirmed.
His cunning, mystery, and deceiving of Olgierd von Everec allow him to be a step above most game villains. Nevertheless, according to fans, this approach to the archetype of the devilish villain was executed flawlessly.
