Gala Games offered expectant fans a sneak peek of Last Expedition at one of their San Diego Comic-Con panels on July 23, and Screen Rant is pleased to present it to readers at home. The new PC game is set on a hazardous alien planet full of monsters and other people who are ready to annihilate each player. The PVPVE extraction FPS game incorporates resource collection, crafting, and combat and follows 4 teams of 4 players competing to collect alien fragments to unlock a mysterious core.
Along the way, Last Expedition exposes each player to all manner of hostile creatures as well as enemy teams who try to prevent them from achieving their goal. The crafting and collection aspects are relatively simple, with the latter including minerals found on the surface of the planet, gaia obtained from killing creatures, and nyx obtained from harvesting fragments. The combat, however, is where the heart of Last Expedition lies — and Comic-Con’s new clip provides a closer look.
The Last Expedition sneak peek above is a behind-the-scenes look at the character and creature creation process. The narrator explains that the game’s setting is desolate and its environment harsh beyond belief, requiring “a special type of person” to not only survive but thrive in the world. That’s exactly why the characters have both competence and cool factor, inspired by ’70s and ’80s science fiction media with an extra touch of punk.
The indigenous lifeforms of Last Expedition were once insects, but have since been morphed thanks to alien DNA. As they evolve, they terraform the planet and extinguish human life — leaving the various teams of players to fight for their survival. The clip showcases the terrifying yet fascinating look at evolved “porcupines,” “parasites,” and “ravagers” who are meant to stop players from harvesting the alien technology that created them.
Last Expedition is planning to have an early access build ready by the end of this summer.
