Four fighters killed near Afghanistan border, Pakistan military reports

Pakistani security forces have eliminated four armed fighters, including a highly sought individual, near the northwestern border with Afghanistan, as announced by the military on Sunday.

During an “intelligence-based operation” in the Khaisoor area of North Waziristan district, Pakistani forces engaged in a gunfight with the fighters. The military press release stated that four fighters, including a “high-value target” known as “Ibrahim,” were killed by the troops.

As per‍ the military statement, a cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives ‍was discovered during the raid. The troops are currently conducting searches ‌in the surrounding areas to locate any ‍fighters ⁣in hiding.

“The Security Forces of Pakistan are ⁢committed to eradicating the ‍terrorism menace from the country,” stated the military.

Previously, North Waziristan served as a safe haven for fighters until the military expelled‍ them following an attack on an army-run school in Peshawar in 2014, which resulted in ⁣the deaths of over 150 people, mostly schoolchildren.

Although the army declared that the region had been cleared of fighters ⁢after the⁤ years-long operation, sporadic attacks continue to occur, raising concerns that the⁤ local Taliban, known as Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), has sought refuge in Afghanistan and is regrouping there.
