The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the governing body of motorsport, has announced that it will utilize Computer Vision technology at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which marks the end of the season. This approach involves analyzing the shape to calculate the number of pixels that cross the track’s edge line.
For now, the FIA does not intend to fully automate the review process for track limit violations. Instead, the goal is to significantly reduce the number of potential rule infractions that need to be manually reviewed by officials.
