GUANTÁNAMO BAY, Cuba — A psychologist who participated in waterboarding prisoners for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) re-enacted some of the approved “enhanced interrogation techniques” used on a Saudi detainee in the war on terrorism during a court hearing this week. John Bruce Jessen, the psychologist, wrapped a towel around the neck of a criminal defense lawyer and slowly pulled her towards him and up on her toes, replicating practices used on Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri at a secret interrogation site in Thailand in late 2002. The defense lawyers used the demonstration to argue that certain evidence from Mr. Nashiri’s trial should be excluded as the fruit of torture. The military judge, Col. Lanny J. Acosta Jr., allowed the presentation to show practices that CIA agents used on Mr. Nashiri.
