Fact-Checking Content on the Threads App: Meta Takes the Lead

Threads is ⁣planning to⁤ enhance its moderation of‍ user-generated content on the platform. ⁤Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, announced that they are developing a fact-checking program. Although the specifics of the program⁣ were not disclosed, Mosseri mentioned that ‌Threads will “match fact-check ratings from Facebook or Instagram to Threads.” Currently, fact-checkers are unable to rate content on Threads. However, if something is flagged as false on‌ Instagram or Facebook, the fact-checker’s ratings will also apply to ‍the app. Mosseri stated, “Our goal is‍ for‍ fact-checking partners ‌to have the⁤ ability to review and rate misinformation on the app.”

The program is expected to launch early next year. Meta ⁢stated that third-party fact-checking partners will identify ⁢and⁢ review⁢ the content circulating on Threads. Users of the app will have the option to increase, decrease,⁤ or maintain the default level of “demotions ‍on fact-checked content” in their personal settings.
