In the world of Harry Potter, Lord Voldemort is the main villain. However, in Hogwarts Legacy and throughout wizarding history, there have been many other dark witches and wizards who have established themselves as evil individuals. Set in the 1890s, 36 years before the birth of Tom Riddle, the game does not feature He Who Shall Not Be Named. Nevertheless, the game does not shy away from the dark arts or characters who have a penchant for them.
The game’s two main antagonists, Victor Rookwood and Ranrok, spare no effort in using wicked spells and intentions against their victims. Rookwood attempts to assassinate the player student more than once, while Ranrok is the leader of the goblin rebellion, using his ancient magic powers for harm instead of good. Ranrok’s loyalists, members of Rookwood’s gang, and malicious poachers are scattered throughout the map, and players can join in on the chaos if they choose to become a dark wizard in Hogwarts Legacy. However, when looking at Harry Potter history, they’ll find that they have some serious competition to live up to.
Herpo The Foul, born in Ancient Greece, was the most influential dark wizard of his time. He is widely recognized for breeding the first Basilisk and creating the first Horcrux. Herpo was the first wizard to ever own a Horcrux, although he is only known to have had one. Players cannot experiment with Horcruxes in Hogwarts Legacy, but the Basilisk is lurking in the Chamber of Secrets (even if the area cannot be accessed in-game).
Dementors, the soul-sucking specters, are a formidable creature from Harry Potter and a menace to all who encounter them. However, an ancient wizard named Raczidian was evil enough to not only gain the loyalty of Dementors but also experience a failed Patronus spell. Instead of summoning a protective spirit, his wand spewed flesh-eating maggots that consumed him alive. Players can encounter Dementors by going to Azkaban in Hogwarts Legacy, but they cannot befriend them in any way.
