Pokémon GO has introduced a new feature called Routes to the augmented reality mobile game. This feature allows players to share walking paths with each other, encouraging everyone to explore their world in new ways. Players can record a path starting from a PokéStop or Gym and share it with others in the area. Following these Routes will reward players and may even lead them to discover new areas in their town.
Pokémon GO offers hundreds of Pokémon for players to catch, and the best way to catch them all is by walking. The app was designed to motivate players to get outside and exercise. With real-world maps and a variety of pocket monsters to collect, this AR game promotes physical activity in a player’s own city. The new Pokémon GO Routes feature even introduces a brand-new Pokémon, the mythical Zygarde.
To submit a Route, players need to select a PokéStop or Gym and hit record to start mapping out their path. The app will ask a few questions about the Route, and players can then submit it for review. Not all Routes will be accepted. Once approved, other players in the area can see the available Route by clicking on the Route tab. They can choose to follow the Route and receive rewards. The app also offers a Special Research story called “From A To Zygarde,” which introduces the Zygarde Pokémon.
Some of the bonuses Trainers will receive by following Routes include:
One concern players may have is the safety of sharing their walking paths with others. Niantic reviews the Routes to ensure player safety. However, it’s important to note that other players can see how many people have followed a Route and the Trainer-provided details, including the Pokémon GO Trainer’s in-game name. They cannot see who is currently using the Route or the times it is typically traveled. If a player follows a Route that does not meet Niantic standards or goes through an unsafe location, they can report it immediately.
