X, previously known as Twitter, introduced audio and video calling for iOS users in October 2023. The feature is now available for Android users as well, as announced by X engineer @enriquebrgn. He shared the news in a post, stating, “Audio and video calls on X slowly rolling out for Android users today! Update your app and call your mother.”

Linda Yaccarino, the CEO of X, initially revealed the addition of video chat on the platform in August, as part of her and owner Elon Musk’s vision to create an all-in-one app. The benefits of this plan, including audio and video calls, are primarily accessible to premium subscribers. However, all users can receive calls, regardless of their contribution to Musk’s aspirations (which costs $8 per month or $84 annually).
If you find WhatsApp, Zoom, Teams, and other platforms sufficient for your needs, it’s simple to disable calls on X.
