Dropbox has introduced end-to-end encryption and key management for select paid plans, enhancing security for users of the file sharing platform. This update was part of a series of announcements made this week.
While Dropbox already encrypts files at rest with 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standards, the new end-to-end encryption for team folders provides an additional layer of protection. This feature ensures that only the sender and recipient have access to the content, with Dropbox itself unable to view the files, as stated in a recent blog post.
In addition to end-to-end encryption, Dropbox will offer customers access to encryption keys managed by FIPS 140-2 Level 3 key management services.
Instructions on how to enable and manage team folder encryption can be found on the Dropbox website. It is important to note that certain app features may be limited with end-to-end encryption, such as sharing files with users outside the team, making it necessary to evaluate its suitability for all files stored in a Dropbox account.
Furthermore, users can now manage team membership and invitations from the Dropbox admin dashboard, and access updated security and compliance information through the Trust Center.
