Despite the ongoing concerns about the rise of deepfake videos, digital “synthetic media” offers real-world benefits in the workplace. Startups are using generative AI tools and deep-learning algorithms to create human-like digital avatars for enterprises to use in various ways, from in-house communications to customer-facing marketing videos.
These digital avatars can be used in video content without the usual production and editing costs and effort, resulting in faster content creation, greater personalization, and the ability to translate communications into multiple languages without hiring a voice-over actor.
Ritu Jyoti, group vice president for AI at IDC, sees “huge potential” for AI-based video creation tools in a business context, especially for marketing, education, training, and creating video manuals.
The technology has advanced to a sufficient level of realism that AI video generation tools are now suitable for corporate communications, with startups and larger players developing similar features.
Microsoft’s Azure AI Speech service, for example, can be used to create a synthesized avatar, and the market for these tools is expected to grow, according to Rowan Curran, a senior analyst at Forrester.
While the market is still in its early stages, the potential for AI-generated content to replace traditional text documents is becoming increasingly apparent.
