Elon Musk has taken legal action against OpenAI
Renowned entrepreneur Elon Musk has initiated legal proceedings against OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman. The lawsuit alleges that OpenAI has strayed from its original mission of creating a broad artificial general intelligence (AGI) with open-source code for the benefit of society. Through its close collaboration with tech giant Microsoft, OpenAI has effectively become a subsidiary of the company and is now focused on developing closed-source code for purely commercial purposes. The crux of the complaint is that the GPT-4 model is now a closed system, which goes against OpenAI’s initial strategy as outlined in its founding documents.
Musk also points out a recent incident involving an attempt to oust Altman, which resulted in Microsoft removing several board members. According to Musk, the new board no longer includes scientists and researchers who were instrumental in developing new technologies and possess a deep understanding of their intricacies. The new leadership lacks expertise in the field of AGI and is primarily focused on furthering Microsoft’s commercial interests.
