India have won the Asia Cup for the eighth time, setting a new record. They achieved this by defeating defending champions Sri Lanka by 10 wickets. Mohammed Siraj was the star of the match, taking a career-best 6-21, including four wickets in one over. The match took place at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka chose to bat first in front of a packed stadium with 35,000 fans. However, they were all out for a meager 50 runs in 15.2 overs. Five of their <a href="https://news.ad-astra.icu/eighth-asia-cup-cricket-crown-won-by-india-with-a-10-wicket-crushing-victory-over-sri-lanka.html” title=”Eighth Asia Cup Cricket Crown Won by India with a 10-Wicket Crushing Victory over Sri Lanka”>batters scored ducks, and Siraj was the main reason for their collapse.
Siraj’s exceptional pace bowling was evident in his second over when he quickly dismissed Pathum Nissanka, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, and Dhananjaya de Silva.
Hardik Pandya also contributed with three wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah took one. Sri Lanka’s total of 50 runs is their second-lowest in one-day internationals (ODIs), and the innings lasted only 92 balls.
India reached the target in just 6.1 overs, providing them with a confidence boost ahead of the upcoming home World Cup next month.
Bumrah dismissed Kusal Perera in the first over, triggering a collapse for Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan batters were helpless against Siraj’s fiery bowling with the new ball.
