Uber purchased Drizly for $1.1 billion in 2021 and now, three years later, the company is shutting down the US-based alcohol delivery service, as reported by Axios. Pierre-Dimitri Gore-Coty, Uber’s SVP of delivery, stated that the decision was made to close the business and focus on the “core Uber Eats strategy.”
In the SEC’s announcement of the acquisition, Drizly was described as a service that partners with local merchants to offer consumers a wide selection of beer, wine, and spirits at competitive prices. Uber integrated Drizly’s offerings into its Eats app, but the alcohol delivery service also had its own separate application.
After operating independently within the Uber family for three years, Drizly will be closed down to prioritize Uber Eats and its mission of helping consumers get almost anything delivered.
