The Disney studio’s animated film “Wish” has officially concluded its theatrical run, marking another disappointing box office performance for the company.
In 2023, Disney faced significant financial losses from a number of films, including Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Fate, Captain Marvel 2, Ant-Man and Wasp: Quantumania, and others. While some projects like The Little Mermaid and Elementary managed to break even, they failed to generate substantial profits. The only standout success was Guardians of the Galaxy: Part 3, which grossed $845 million against a $250 million budget.
Now, ”Wish” has added to Disney’s string of disappointments from the previous year. Despite being released in theaters on November 22, the film failed to attract a significant audience, even during the holiday season. Its worldwide box office earnings totaled $251 million, with only $64 million coming from the USA.
Considering the film’s $200 million budget (excluding marketing expenses) and the high theater commissions outside the USA, which often exceed 50% of ticket sales, “Wish” is expected to result in over $100 million in losses for the company.
