The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is chock-full of fun, lovable characters – some of which players may find themselves relating to, depending on their zodiac sign. Just like Breath of the Wild, the newest Zelda game is an open-world action RPG, which means that players are able to control Link’s actions, dialogue choices, and more; as such, he is automatically the most relatable character. But by taking a look at the NPCs in Tears of the Kingdom and how they relate to the twelve astrological signs, further parallels can be drawn.
[Warning: The following article contains spoilers for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.]While there are a number of fresh faces for the protagonist to meet, there are also plenty of recognizable ones that make a return from BOTW. Being one of few direct sequels in the series’ history, TOTK takes place a mere handful of years after its predecessor, which presents a unique opportunity to see characters develop over time. In fact, even Link seems to have matured (and is actually hinted to be in a relationship with Zelda in Tears of the Kingdom). Many familiar NPCs feel new in a way, which makes it even more interesting for players to determine which TOTK character they are based on their zodiac sign.
Riju, the Chief of the Gerudo in Tears of the Kingdom, may not be the Sage of Fire – but that doesn’t stop her from being fiery and bold just like an Aries. She’s an incredibly skilled warrior and a strong-willed leader, who has the best interest of the Gerudo in mind above all else. However, the Sage of Lightning isn’t overly confident. As is often the case with real-life Aries, who may frequently find themselves craving a challenge, Riju is constantly striving to become stronger, faster, and better in every aspect.
Tauruses are known to be practical, down-to-earth folk, and it doesn’t get much more down-to-earth than Hestu and all the Koroks in Tears of the Kingdom. Though they’ve earned a bad reputation thanks to their sheer quantity in BOTW and TOTK, the forest creatures are ultimately respectable for their steadfastness. Koroks only ever want to get back to their friends, and Hestu simply wants to collect more Korok seeds for his maraca. Much like a Taurus, they’ve set their minds to a single, stable goal that they continue to work towards, no matter how long it takes.
Josha, the Head of Depths Research, is the Tears of the Kingdom character most like a Gemini. Those born under the zodiac sign are quick learners, and they’re always seeking more knowledge, wisdom, or a stimulating conversation; they love to share their ideas with others, and are often quite excitable. The bubbly genius Josha fits the archetype perfectly, as she is constantly working on her map of the Depths, but not without cracking a joke or sharing some quick banter.
