Apple has introduced significant improvements in repairability with the latest iPhone 16 series, particularly with the new battery removal process for the standard iPhone 16 model. Instead of traditional pull tabs, Apple now uses an adhesive that can be easily debonded with a low electrical current. According to Apple’s repair guide, this process takes only about a minute and a half to complete. A teardown conducted by iFixit demonstrates how smooth and efficient this new method is. iFixit’s Shahram Mokhtari commented, “I don’t think we’ve ever seen such a clean and smooth battery removal process before.”
The new adhesive is exclusive to the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models, both of which have received a commendable repairability score of 7/10 from iFixit. Mokhtari noted that Apple appears to be stepping up its game in terms of repairability and has achieved another success in this area with the innovative battery removal procedure implemented in this year’s base iPhones.
