Discover the Path of Colorado’s Eight Free-Roaming Wolves in September

In September, the‍ eight remaining wolves in Colorado ⁣were spotted in the ⁢state’s‌ north-central ‌mountain ⁤ranges,⁢ as shown on ⁢a recent tracking map. They avoided ⁢areas near Walden and Steamboat Springs⁤ where they had been seen before, instead sticking to watersheds⁢ in Jackson, Routt, Grand, ⁢Summit and Eagle counties.

One wolf ventured ⁢into Rocky ⁢Mountain⁣ National Park in‌ July for the first time ever but had left by September. The‌ total known wolf‍ population in‍ the state is now⁤ 13,⁢ with seven survivors from the reintroduction of⁣ 10 adults last December, along with four pups from the Copper Creek⁤ pack and two adults from a previous pack that migrated from Wyoming.

Unfortunately, one reintroduced adult and ⁢four pups are currently ‌in‍ captivity after ‌being removed due to ⁣livestock ‍depredations. Three of the reintroduced wolves have died – one likely‍ killed by a mountain lion in spring and⁣ another passing away from natural causes after being captured by‍ CPW officials.
