Devastation in Gaza: A Year of Conflict Leaves City in Ruins

Devastated Areas are the remnants of buildings post Israel-Hamas conflict.

A year ‌ago, Gaza turned into a battleground as Israel initiated a military operation to‌ eliminate Hamas following the Oct 7 attacks ⁣led by Hamas. The aftermath of the‍ war has left Gaza in ruins, with tens of thousands dead and⁤ almost the entire population displaced multiple times.

Approximately 60 percent of structures in this besieged region have been damaged or razed ‍to the ground, covering an area half ⁢the size of New York City. Videos and⁣ images captured before and after the conflict in severely‍ affected ⁣areas like Khan Younis, Gaza City, and‍ Jabaliya depict the extensive devastation across Gaza.

Israel’s objective was to eradicate Hamas and dismantle their underground tunnel network. However,‌ this mission⁢ resulted in‍ widespread destruction in ⁣an area inhabited by around two million people.

54% of structures have likely been ‌damaged or destroyed.

Located‌ in southern Gaza is Khan Younis governorate, extending from its historic medieval city ⁢with a citadel wall to fertile fields cultivated by generations past.
