Czechia on the Hunt: Explosions in Vrbětice Linked to The Insider GRUshnik Averianov

The Czech⁤ authorities are on the lookout for General Andrey Averyanov, the head of⁤ military unit 29155 of‌ the Russian GRU, in connection with the explosions at military warehouses in Vrbetice in 2014. Averyanov, identified‍ as one of the masterminds behind the incident, is‍ considered “Dangerous” according to the police website.

In late April,‍ the Czech Republic confirmed GRU’s involvement⁣ in the Vrbetice explosions, which were ⁣part of an operation targeting Bulgarian arms dealer Emelyan Gebrev. ⁣The⁤ incident was ⁢seen as a component ⁤of a broader Russian military intelligence scheme to ‌disrupt⁤ weapon supplies to conflict ⁢zones.

Reports from The Insider⁢ and Bellingcat suggest that GRU operatives targeted Gebrev’s warehouse, as he was a key‍ ammunition supplier during the conflict in Donbass. Averyanov, leading a special sabotage ‍unit at the time, collaborated with Russian spies Elena and Nikolai Shaposhnikov, who had Czech citizenship and provided intelligence on the Imex company.

In a twist, the Shaposhnikovs facilitated Mishkin and ‍Chepiga’s (Boshirov and Petrov in Russia) access to Averyanov in⁢ 2014. Using fake passports, the duo visited the Vrbetice warehouse under aliases, “Ruslan Tabarov” and “Nikolai Popa.”

Moscow has denied the allegations made by⁣ the Czech authorities regarding the explosions…
