Two days ago, update 2.0 for Cyberpunk 2077 was released. A major patch preceding the Phantom Liberty expansion and extensively rebuilding the core gameplay systems, in a sense, represents a new chapter in CD Projekt’s work.
For this reason, videos comparing the current version of Cyberpunk to its problematic release version from almost three years ago quickly appeared online.
Without a doubt, Cyberpunk 2077 in its current state is practically a different game from the one we received in December 2020 – naturally, in a positive sense.
And it’s not just about significantly improved reactions of pedestrians or the police to the player’s actions, but also a whole range of small details that do not hinder immersion in the game. As seen from the video, many animations have been added or improved in the game, such as jumping out of a moving car or climbing stairs.
The pros include changes in the physics and visuals of the game, which is not surprising considering the updated system requirements. Nevertheless, it should be acknowledged that not all elements of CP2077 have been improved since the game’s release. As seen from the video, the game still has some issues, particularly with the NPC artificial intelligence and broken shadows during diving.
The gaming community has highly appreciated the efforts that CD Projekt has made to fix Cyberpunk 2077, noting that the game still requires numerous minor fixes.
Although update 2.0 contains phenomenal changes and improvements, it is not perfect. I expect that some of these issues will be resolved, but I am not sure how much more time and effort CDPR wants to invest in this game after Phantom Liberty.
More sarcastic users joke that the game was supposed to be released only after the fixes included in update 2.0.
So essentially, at the time of release, there were still three years left to complete the game’s development. Did they really need another three years to finish the game?
Without a doubt, the need for a more comprehensive analysis allowing for a “hands-on” evaluation of the main gameplay components is still significant.
In conclusion, it is worth noting that on September 26, a major expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 – Phantom Liberty - will be released. The expansion, which has received many positive reviews in the press, will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
