Meet the Airbus A320 pilots from Ural Airlines – Sergey Belov and Eduard Semyonov.
Recently, Ural Airlines made the decision to part ways with pilot Sergey Belov, who was the captain of the Airbus A320 involved in the dramatic landing in a wheat field near Novosibirsk in September 2023. While initial reports suggested Belov left voluntarily, conflicting information emerged from a TV channel quoting Belov denying any desire to leave. The situation remains unclear as Belov stated, “I don’t know where this information came from. I’m sorry, I can’t speak.” Meanwhile, the second pilot, Eduard Semyonov, remains on unpaid leave.
On September 12, the Airbus A320 aircraft faced an emergency landing in a wheat field near Novosibirsk during its flight from Sochi to Omsk. The crew encountered hydraulic system failure and loss of hydraulics while approaching the “Central” airport. Despite attempts to make a second approach, the pilots redirected to an alternate airfield in Novosibirsk due to landing distance calculations. The aircraft had to land in the field with minimal fuel remaining, a tense situation that required quick thinking and skillful execution.
Uncovering the Truth
Following the incident, the West Siberian Territorial Administration of the Federal Air Transport Agency initiated an investigation. Despite the initial completion of the report on October 31, the head of the administration decided to reopen the investigation on November 6 due to “newly revealed circumstances.” The quest for answers continues as the aviation community seeks to understand the full scope of the events that transpired.
