Labour’s‌ victory in Selby and Ainsty⁢ is the “largest numerical majority ​overturned by Labour ⁤in post-war ‍history,” according to Britain Elects’⁢ Ben Walker.

“People ​opened their‍ doors to us and embraced our positive vision‍ for⁣ the future,” Mather says.

“For too long, Conservatives up here and ⁣in Westminster, ‍have failed ⁢us.⁢ And now that changes. It’s time‌ for a fresh start,” he‌ says.

He ‍thanks his ⁤partner Euan, too.

He says he ⁢has‍ encountered “so ⁤much hardship” while campaigning‌ – hardship‍ caused by‌ the Tories.

Labour have won Selby and Ainsty, achieving ​a historic‍ result by winning ​despite⁢ the‌ Tories having a majority of​ more than 20,000 votes. Labour‌ now has ⁣a ‌majority of 4,161⁤ – and ​the‍ youngest‌ MP in parliament. ⁢Keir⁢ Mather,⁤ 25, is officially the baby of the ⁣house.

35,886 votes‌ were‍ cast,​ with 69 ‌ballots ‌rejected.

The ⁢results are as⁢ follows: ‌

Labour: 16,456

Conservatives: 12,295

Yorkshire party: 1,503

Reform UK: 1,332

Independent: ⁣99
