In an interview with Inven Global, CD Projekt RED’s creative director, Colin Walder, revealed that they have learned from the lessons of Cyberpunk 2077 and promise not to repeat the same mistakes in the development of Polaris and the new Witcher saga.
Walder recalled the notorious launch issues of Cyberpunk 2077 to emphasize the work his team has done to overcome numerous critical problems that arose in the first version of the sci-fi adventure:
Since then, we have learned from our mistakes and have adopted a new approach to both development and production. For example, we constantly create cross-platform demo versions and use a more flexible approach that ensures we are always aware of the changes we need to make.
Continuing to discuss The Witcher 4 and the “lessons learned” from Cyberpunk 2077’s problems, Walder explains:
For our next project, The Witcher Polaris, we have integrated console development from the start using demo versions, internal reviews, and testing. We only applied this approach later during the development of Cyberpunk. Reflecting on Cyberpunk and those issues, I think the key was to realize what was happening and acknowledge that the result was not what we had anticipated. It was a serious blow to our morale, but we were determined to make things right.
